40th Annual Free Spirit Gathering 2026 - Unity in the Storm
Tuesday August 4th - Sunday August 9th
Open to attendees of all backgrounds and experience levels, it’s a friendly space to learn something new, recharge outdoors, and meet like-minded people.
Held every summer in a peaceful woodland setting, Free Spirit Gathering is an open, family-friendly retreat dedicated to community, personal growth, and spiritual exploration.
Over the course of the week, attendees can participate in a wide variety of activities, including yoga, drumming, artisan crafts, guided discussions, and evening entertainment.
Designed to be a welcoming environment for newcomers and returning guests alike, the festival emphasizes mutual respect, shared connection, and celebrating nature together.

VikingsCon is an annual, family-friendly festival celebrating Norse culture, history, and pop-culture fandom. Held at the Charles County Fairgrounds in LaPlata, Maryland, the event brings together history enthusiasts, reenactors, and fans for an immersive weekend of living history demonstrations, hands-on activities, celebrity guest panels*, and artisan shopping. Whether you’re interested in historical craftsmanship, combat training, or simply enjoying a horn of mead, VikingsCon offers something for all ages.
Activities & Programming Highlights
Living History Encampment: Walk through an authentic Viking village where historical reenactors demonstrate everyday Norse life, ancient crafts, cooking, and storytelling.
Axe Throwing & Archery: Test your skills with hands-on target practice guided by experienced instructors.
Weapons & Combat Training: Participate in workshops covering the fundamentals of Viking combat using swords, axes, seaxes, and shields.
The Mead Hall & Great Hall Market: Enjoy traditional mead and local food while browsing dozens of artisan vendors selling drinking horns, furs, custom ironwork, leather goods, and Norse jewelry.
Kids' Encampment: Family-friendly activities including shield painting, storytelling, and interactive games designed specifically for young Vikings.
Special Events & Rituals: Experience traditional cultural demonstrations, including live musical performances (such as harpists), blacksmithing workshops, runic writing, and seasonal closing ceremonies like the Dísablót.
Overnight Camping & Feast: Optional weekend features including overnight encampment passes and exclusive VIP feasts.

The event routinely hosts celebrity guests and actors from hit Norse-inspired series like the History Channel's Vikings, as well as historical authors, combat experts, and artisans. Chesapeake High-School Fall Craft Fair

Supporting the Chesapeake High School Marching Cougars, this festive community event brings together local crafters, neighbors, and music supporters for a fun-filled day of shopping, food, and entertainment.
Over 275 Local Vendors: Browse a massive selection of handmade crafts, seasonal decor, unique gifts, and artisan goods.
